The Reds travelled to the Black country to face a team which still has the remnants of the Premiership squad from the previous year. A tough task bearing in mind our away form.

It took just eight minutes for the home side to take the lead through Stephen Ward as he got on the end of a Sylvan Ebanks Blake ball to slot home low into the goal.

Ebanks-Blake made it two with his own, after finding space following a pass from Karl Henry.

Wolves sealed it on 70 minutes even though there were no major signs of a comeback from the Reds as Edwards made a good run into the Barnsley box to fire home Wolves' third.

Thomasz Cywka got was to be purely a consolation for Barnsley, with his first goal for his new side as he finished clinically into the bottom corner.
