Wolves pull clear, as brum are held.

Wolves extended their lead at the top on Saturday as Birmingham dropped vital points in the title race.

Burnley cemented their standing in the play-offs, while Preston endured a frustrating afternoon on the road.

Wolves continue to lead the way and are now five points clear after they ground out a 1-0 win away at struggling Nottingham Forest .

Birmingham missed the opportunity to close the gap at the top as they were forced to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Norwich .

Reading failed to capitalise as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace in the evening fixture.

Burnley are temporarily fourth in the table as they enjoyed a productive afternoon on the South West Coast, prevailing 2-1 over Plymouth .

Preston could have moved to within touching distance of the top-six had they seen off rock-bottom Charlton , but their clash in the capital finished goalless.

Bristol City also remain on the fringes of the promotion-chasing pack after they went down 2-1 at Queens Park Rangers .

On a day of few goals, Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea failed to score at Hillsborough.

A basement battle between Derby and Barnsley also ended goalless, as did Ipswich's clash with Watford.

Coventry were able to force a breakthrough in their mid-table meeting with Doncaster, with David Bell's solitary strike settling that contest.

Elsewhere, Blackpool and Southampton took a point apiece from a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road as they continue to battle bravely against the drop.
