Barnsley 1 - Man City 1

Barnsley FC today gave massive spending Manchester City a reality check at Oakwell, with Daniel Bogdanovic showing the 30 million pound strikers how to put the ball in the back of the net, and in spectacular style. He chased onto a ball with two city defenders in close attendance and fired a fierce well placed drive past Shay Given from outside the area into the bottom corner to send Oakwell crazy!

From this showing City will have to do an awful lot of jelling to be serious challengers in this seasons Premiership. They have spent the most but can they all play together in a cohesive force? Personally I think the team will need a season to settle in before any serious challenge to the big 4.

Meanwhile big positives for the reds, with Jacob Butterfield stroking the ball around impressively in midfield, and picking up man of the match in the process. Iain Hume made his long awaited return to a rapturous standing ovation for the last twenty.

An entertaining encounter in front of a crowd of 13,000 saw the reds take the lead through Bogdanovic on 83 minutes, only to see City reply minutes later through Martin Petrov as the Barnsley defence went static allowing the cross to pick out Petrov for an easy goal. Up until this point Steele looked unbeatable as he beat out a number of shots, the highlight being an acrobatic dive to the top right to keep out a Craig Bellamy freekick. The defence was also strong as they soaked up Manchester City pressure.

From this performance and together with the unbeaten pre-season the season looks rosy for the reds, get off to a good start by whooping Wednesday at Hillsborough and we could have a good run. Looking forward to the big kick off! Get you tickets for Hillsborough (there are only a few left apparently and lets cheer the reds onto another victory over the auld enemy) be nice to create a wall of noise to spur the boys on to victory.
