LITTER DIARY

< >

8th December 2011- The last week for most of the puppies with me and Rolo ;o(
In this week, apart from the intensive care of these energetic bundles, and respective expelled elements, I have had also to contend with the boiler packing up last Sunday, and am only just now waiting for it finally to get fixed, despite having been given two days of four hour slots to wait in for an engineer from the AA... (should have stuck with cars) so, the puppies have had my only portable source of heat (alongside the puppy heat lamp) which I have had to re-install as we have had a couple of days in and around freezing, but the rest of the house has been freezing. Not good.
I gave the GSP puppies another dose of the Drontal worming solution at the weekend which was on approx. 6 weeks.
It is with very mixed emotions as I reach the last few days with quite a few of the GSP pups. They are all so beautiful but such a combined 'handful' at this stage.

2nd December 2011- GSP puppies are a very lively 6 weeks old today! One more week approx and they start to go to their new homes. And I know from comments/emails etc that excitement is at fever pitch! Everyone except this sweet little guy below... everyone say 'Awwwww' ;o) I'm sure a brilliant home and loving family is just round the corner though!
I have had to shore up the defences of the pen in the last day or two as they occasionally scrabble up, but not quite making it like 11 trainee ninja's! ...They will become very good at jumping however as they often don't bother with steps at stiles.
PS: I hope you enjoy the video this week, I am currently uploading another to my youtube folder so you will be able to view that online should you wish.. ;o)

The last Solid Black boy...

25th November 2011- 5 weeks old! sometimes I think this is going slow, then it seems to have gone in a blink of an eye. Pups will begin leaving between 2 & 3 weeks time! Plenty of excited people out there I know! ;o) Its getting increasingly hard to get a natural video of play etc, as the pups are very alert to me opening the door and so there is no catching them unawares! They are very robust and enjoying life 'chez' Penidasher, with lots of paper tearing, and increasingly more boisterous play. The puppy packs have arrived today, so everyone will have a 1.5kg bag of puppy food courtesy of Skinners breeder programme. Also in each bag is a measuring cup, a 'guide' to how much the puppy should be fed and a £2.50 voucher off your first purchase of Skinners field & trial puppy food. If you've not already got your puppy food in then the link below is where I get it from, as previously explained its the cheapest I've found online and works out even better if you get 2 bags, as its free delivery for 2 bags. If you use this link I do get a very small commision on the food from this supplier, but that doesn't make the food anymore expensive for my customers.

22nd November 2011- GSP Pups are all doing well, getting very big, active and messy in the pen area, and it's carnage in the morning, so now they have had their first taste of the British weather... they go out first thing in the morning whilst I tidy and freshen everything within. they do prefer it under their heat lamp I must admit at this stage. They all wolfed down two bowls of Goats Milk yesterday, and Rolo is taking more of a back stage role at present, she still manages to jump in and let them feed now and again. The GSP pups also have water readily available at all times now, but I think some must use it as a paddling pool instead!!!

18th November 2011- Four weeks old today! As you can see from the new video that the pups are full of life and play fighting amongst themselves is the chief pastime other than sleep/eat. One B&W male in particular likes to bark at me now and again, he barked when domino popped her head into the pen, and she jumped a mile ;o) Saying that she is also scared of my girlfiends cat! I will be weighing them all then giving the second dose of Drontal Oral Suspension worming programme today.

15th November 2011- The GSP pups are now in overdrive, in between food and sleep they are now fast moving with emerging pirhana teeth... any movement across their now enlarged pen with run gets taken down fast! Socks get pulled and pawed, which, whilst trying to gather up papers to clean up and replace with clean paper can be a tad trying, its a good job they are all to die for! Cute is not the word! The last solid Black GSP bitch has been reserved today, and can look forward to a lovely home in Ayrshire!... the 'Penidasher' footprint just got wider ;o)
Food wise, they are now getting through 3 plates of puppy food mixed like porridge three times a day, with mum feeding as usual with increasing discomfort (imagine a heavy scrum with sharp teeth!) and on Friday at four weeks as well as producing another video to show you all the progress of the pups I will be giving them all their second fortnightly dose of the Drontal worming programme, which will probably be helped down with a bit of goats milk in individual portions.

10th November 2011-
Approaching 3 weeks old, the pups are well into the plated Skinners puppy food that I give them at 7am, 2pm and 8pm, they know that when I put some paper down in the bed that the plates will follow and excitement follows! My stocks are now running low on Puppy food as Rolo has been eating large quantities of the same food, so I have placed another order for another 2 sacks which should see me through til the pups leave around December 10th. I have mentioned to a few of you that I buy them from this online supplier below...
< >
and with free delivery for two sacks I have found this to be the best place for it on the net. It's wise to get this ordered in prior to pups coming to your home, and two sacks should keep you going for a good few months of the pups new life with you! After this time, should you wish to, you can gradually phase in a quality food of your choice.
PS: watch out for new video which I will try to film tomorrow on 3 weeks, and you can see the development of these lovely GSP pups week by week.

4th November 2011- Two weeks old today...! Eyes half open and getting up on four legs more and more, keep trying the pups with some gruell type puppy food, some but not all interested at the moment. It will help when they can move faster and have eyes fully open! I have to weigh and administer first individual dose of Drontal oral suspension for worms to all 11 pups today.. big job! particularly when they don't really want it squirting down there throats!

Puppy love

Pups first 'solid' meal... whats this????

30th October 2011-
Pups are doing brilliant, getting very substantial very fast, and trying to get up on their legs and walk normally, which gives the impression of 11 drunk pups.. eyes should be starting to open now to reveal the blue eyes that they all have initially. Only 2 solid Black girls are now available.

28th October 2011-
One week on and the pups are doing great, almost doubled in size and really cute!!! (see below)
We've also clipped all the pups nails today, just to take the edge off damage as they feed off mum.
Only 2 solid Black girls, and one solid Liver girl remain... all gorgeous.

21st October 2011- Well done Rolo! over 16 hours of labour, with a four and half hour gap between pup 4 and pup 5 (not good for my nerves!) and she has had a lovely big strong litter of 11 gsp puppies! All colour variations, and incredibly 5 solid Blacks this time, having not produced any in the first litter. Please see below for early pictures of the pups. And congratulations to those who have secured one of these beauties... (saying that they do do a good impression of a guinea pigs at present ;o)

12th October 2011- Rolo doing well, its all very tiring, and she's doing a very good impression of a beached Manatee! ;o) poor girl. Still getting her out for walks etc to keep strength/condition up, but Domino the mad daughter likes to be like a Kamikaze and fly full pelt at her mum but miss... (which doesn't do me any good!!) so had to put her on lead yesterday, probably seperate walks soon for them both. Rolo had a big breast of Turkey with her dinner last night, and try to give her bits and pieces now and again like scrambled/fried egg.

I have started also mixing the Skinners puppy food in her food and will have her fully on this by the time she gives birth, this is what the pups will be weaned on, and what I suggest you buy in prior to getting the pup, this is a good economical place to buy it from I have found and I got free delivery on two sacks... <GJW Titmuss>

< >

Additionally I have a breeders deal with Skinners and they provide each pups and new owner with a small bag of Field & Trial Puppy food to get you started when you leave with the energetic 'little' bundle.

6th October 2011- Rolo is getting bigger quite rapidly. Looking very big already despite having another 19 days left of gestation.

2nd October 2011- Started the worming program which treats the growing pups whilst still in their mother. Which is now administered daily until approx 2 days after birth of litter.

26th September 2011- I can confirm that Rolo is in Whelp. She has visibly shown signs of filling out, although she has had enlarged teats since the mating.

23rd August 2011- Rolo mated with Rowan in Somerset today, following several ovualtion tests conducted at our vets, we received confirmation of a successful result and travelled down to Somerset today, with a stop over night due to length of journey. Fingers crossed that the mating was successful.
Strangely enough, and coincidentally the mating took place on the birthdate of the previous litter!
